Recipe highlights
Besides, how could anyone not like a good brunch mimosa, a.k.a. socially acceptable drink before lunchtime? It’s super quick and easy to fix yourself one, it’s perfect to serve company, and it’s got just the right amount of sweetness and booze to jazz up your weekend! It’s always been one of my favorite mother’s day brunch recipes .
Seasonal fruits like clementines, tangerines and blood oranges (or moro oranges) are perfect for this mimosa. I love blood oranges the most, because it actually tastes festive (yes, that’s a thing!).
They are citrusy, with lovely floral and berry notes (like cranberries and raspberries), and there’s that gorgeous deep red color too of course. For this cocktail, I paired blood orange with vanilla (in the form of this vanilla blood orange syrup ), and gin to enhance the floral, earthy notes, and then topped it with prosecco.
This gin and blood orange mimosa makes a really festive and delicious brunch cocktail perfect for the winter season (and on Christmas morning!).

You can use blood orange juice instead of my vanilla blood orange syrup if you choose. But the syrup is a great way to concentrate the flavor and color of the blood oranges. Plus, the addition of vanilla gives it another layer of flavor.

Since blood oranges aren’t as acidic as other citrus fruits, I muddled just a small segment of lime for each cocktail (you can make multiple cocktails at the same time), and mixed in the blood orange syrup and gin.
Lastly, top it with your favorite prosecco (I used Vovetti).

The result is a stunningly beautiful gin and blood orange mimosa that tastes even better than a regular mimosa. The beautiful red is definitely striking, but you also get notes of citrus, berries and vanilla from the blood orange syrup, and an earthy flavor from the juniper berries in gin.
Add in the prosecco and all these flavors start to pop, dance and tingle in your mouth! There’s nothing quite like a great brunch mimosa on a lazy weekend morning! 🙂
